Definitions Plant Transpiration

Overview of Transpiration

  1. uptake(water,root_hair,xylem,plant)
Water is passively transported into the roots and then into the xylem.
  2. transport(water,xylem,leaves,mesophyl_cells)
The forces of cohesion and adhesion cause the water molecules to form a column in the xylem. Water moves from the xylem into the mesophyll cells
  3. evaporation(water_vapor,transpiration)
Water evaporates from the surfaces and leaves of the plant by diffusion through the open stomata.
Xylem

minerals from the roots upwards. (Wikimedia)
